Miniature Flamingo Cake

Hi there, nice to see you again.

Hope you are having an awesome summer!

I know it's been a long time since my last post, but here I am with a new miniature cake project for the August issue of "Dolls House & Miniature Scene" magazine, a tropical cake with a flamingo and hibiscus flower. The cake was inspired by the real cake by Cakes by Lynz, who makes some of the most amazing cakes and this one was no different.

I used a 2.5cm wide cutter to make the main body of my cake, but you can adjust this to the scale you are used to working with, no biggie.

What else is in this Issue?

With summer in full flow here in the UK, they look at adding seasonal décor to our houses, in the form of Sadie Brown’s sunflower wreath and bunting, plus my flamingo themed cake. The month of August also sees the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s passing, and Moi Ali discovers a miniaturist who has recreated Graceland – with all the details made mini!

They have an incredibly touching reader project this issue, as miniaturist Joanne Pittaras tells of her father’s love of painting watercolours and how he created many for her in mini form. Their two hobbies collided, when she decided to home his tiny paintings inside a house she built, and they designed the rooms together. Her father sadly passed away and the house – art gallery – is now a family heirloom, so beautiful!

Further on, you’ll find a whole host of design tips from industry experts, more features to explore and projects to try and make.

Get digital copies to read on your favourite device with bonus features, or printed copies delivered to your door here:

Stay tuned because I have more tutorials lined up for you till the end of the year! I hope you enjoy making this tropical cake and if you do, remember to share your recreations with us on Instagram using #dollshouseminiaturescene and #maiveferrando or tagging us in your pictures, we love to see your work!

Have a lovely rest of the summer and I'll catch you in my next post with more yummy miniature food projects,

Thanks for reading,

Lots of love,

Mai
